The problem
Rolling is a comparison problem, not a one-number answer
A roll changes expiration, strike, credit or debit, buying-power needs, and risk. Looking at one replacement contract at a time makes those tradeoffs difficult to compare.
Roll Assistant places eligible candidates in a consistent view. It filters and sorts the current chain, but it does not score a winner or decide for you.
Workflow
How it works
- 1
Open an eligible position
Launch Roll Assistant from a supported short put, covered or short call, long call, or long put position.
- 2
Load the current chain
Optioneer matches the current contract and loads available replacement contracts from the current option chain.
- 3
Compare the tradeoffs
Filter and sort candidates by the available dates, strikes, prices, and roll economics. No candidate is scored or recommended.
- 4
Test the candidate
Open a selected candidate in Scenario Lab to inspect the estimated payoff and effect on the actual portfolio.
What it can do
- Current-contract context and current option-chain candidates
- Deterministic filtering and sorting rather than opaque scoring
- Support for eligible short puts, covered or short calls, long calls, and long puts
- Credit or debit and contract tradeoff comparisons from available quotes
- One-click handoff of a candidate to Scenario Lab
Important limits
- Roll Assistant does not recommend which roll you should make and does not rank a “best” trade.
- Grouped multi-leg positions and the anchor leg of a poor man’s covered call are not supported in the current roll workflow.
- Candidates require sufficiently current, internally consistent quote data. Fees and slippage are not execution guarantees.
- Optioneer does not submit, modify, cancel, or execute the roll.
Questions about manage the next decision
What is Roll Assistant?
It is a position workflow that compares eligible replacement contracts from current option-chain data and makes the roll tradeoffs easier to inspect.
Does Roll Assistant recommend which roll I should make?
No. It applies transparent filters and sorting, but no candidate is scored or recommended. The decision remains yours.
Can Roll Assistant execute a roll?
No. It can send a candidate to Scenario Lab for analysis, but Optioneer never submits the order to a broker.
