The problem
A trade can look reasonable alone and still be a poor fit for the portfolio
A payoff diagram explains the proposed trade. It does not show whether the trade doubles an existing directional exposure, consumes too much cash, or changes the portfolio risk in an unexpected way.
Scenario Lab combines hypothetical legs with the selected Optioneer portfolio so you can evaluate the trade in context before you decide what to do.
Workflow
How it works
- 1
Select the actual portfolio
Choose the Optioneer portfolio whose current positions, cash, and exposure should be the baseline.
- 2
Build the hypothetical trade
Add stock and option legs, quantities, expirations, strikes, and proposed prices without recording a live position.
- 3
Inspect payoff and impact
Review payoff characteristics plus estimated changes to cash, concentration, Delta, Gamma, Theta, and Vega when data supports them.
- 4
Save or prepare the next step
Save, reopen, duplicate, or refresh the scenario. Eligible single-leg IBKR scenarios can produce reviewable manual order instructions or a BasketTrader CSV.
What it can do
- Hypothetical stock and option scenarios with up to 10 legs
- Payoff, break-even, maximum profit, and maximum loss analysis where defined
- Before-and-after portfolio cash and concentration estimates
- Before-and-after Delta, Gamma, Theta, and Vega when reliable data is available
- Saved scenarios that can be reopened, duplicated, and refreshed
- Manual IBKR order preparation for eligible single-leg scenarios
Important limits
- Scenario Lab is hypothetical. It never changes the actual Optioneer portfolio or brokerage account.
- Calculated values are estimates based on the inputs and available market data; they are not forecasts.
- Order preparation is a manual handoff. Optioneer does not connect a trading session or submit an order to IBKR.
- Scenario Lab is a Premium feature and does not provide investment advice.
Questions about test portfolio fit
Can I test a trade before placing it?
Yes. Scenario Lab lets you model a hypothetical stock or options trade and compare it with the current portfolio you select.
Does Scenario Lab change my actual portfolio?
No. A scenario is separate from the real portfolio. Saving, refreshing, or deleting it does not add, edit, or close an actual position.
Can it calculate how a trade changes portfolio Greeks?
Yes, when the required option and market data is available. It can estimate before-and-after Delta, Gamma, Theta, and Vega for the selected portfolio.
Does Optioneer submit the trade to Interactive Brokers?
No. Eligible single-leg scenarios can prepare manual instructions or a BasketTrader CSV, but you must review the order and transmit it yourself in IBKR TWS.
